History

Carrying on the Lllewellin Bloodline

Pride Llewellin Kennels was established in the early 1980’s by Byron Sanders, who already had years of experience with English Setters and Pointers. After reading an article in Sports Afield, Sanders became enamored with the Llewellin, impressed by their domination of the National Bird Dog Trials and their instinctual performance with hunting.

At the time, there were only a handful of breeders dedicated to keeping the original Llewellin bloodlines alive. Sanders contacted two of these breeders, Glen Roark and Dr. Everett Bickers, and purchased four dogs that began the Pride line – Tonic (imported from South Africa), Machad Ambassador (imported from Scotland/England), Cloncurragh Jason (imported from Scotland), and Dashing Barry (incorporating American Blizzard/Bomber blood).
